CNU Women's Basketball Entertains Eastern Mennonite in Non-Conference Finale Tuesday

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- After a layoff of two weeks for both teams due to the holiday break, the Christopher Newport women's basketball team will host Eastern Mennonite University (6-2) in CNU's non-conference finale Tuesday afternoon. The Captains (7-3) will host the Royals at 2:00 pm in the Freeman Center, with live stats and a live video webcast available at CNUsports.com/live.

Both teams, off to hot starts in the 2014-15 season, are coming off a loss heading into the winter holiday. The Captains last played on December 17 and suffered a close loss to nationally-ranked Salisbury University in league play, while Eastern Mennonite is making its second consecutive trip to Newport News, coming off a loss at Apprentice School on December 13. The Royals had run off six wins in their first seven games and are receiving votes in the D3hoops.com Top 25.

So far this season, senior Camry Green has been the anchor of a high-powered offense that ranks 20th in the nation in scoring and 26th in rebounding margin. Green is averaging 13.8 points and 11.7 rebounds per game to lead the Captains and ranks fourth nationally in double-doubles with eight in the first ten games. Joining Green as double-figure scorers for CNU are a pair of rookies, Sam Porter and Bailey Dufrene. Both have provided an immense spark off the bench, pouring in 11.5 and 10.6 points per game. Porter has 21 steals to lead the Captains to 13.5 steals per game, ranking 24th nationally.

Eastern Mennonite has been receiving votes in all four regular season polls released by D3hoops.com this season and come into Tuesday's contest as one of the most efficient teams in the nation, ranking eighth in field goal percentage. Like CNU, the Royals are also strong on the boards, ranking 13th in rebounding margin while averaging nearly 45 boards per game. Junior Jess Rheinheimer leads the team with nearly 17 points per game and over seven rebounds per game. From long range, senior Marla zumFelde is one of the most dangerous shooters in the nation, hitting over 51% of her shots from deep with over three made trey's per game.

The Captains will wrap up non-conference play as well as the 2014 portion of the schedule with Tuesday's contest. CNU will move into full-time conference action this Saturday, January 3, hosting York College (Pa.) at 2:00 pm.
