CNU Men's Hoops Hosts No. 11 Virginia Wesleyan at 2:00 pm

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- On Sunday, the Christopher Newport men's basketball team is back in action after a week off for final exams. The Captains (5-1) will host 11th-ranked Virginia Wesleyan College (6-1) at 2:00 pm, with live stats and live video available at CNUsports.com/live. 

The game is Elementary School Spirit Day and all students wearing school or CNU gear will receive free admission.

CNU has won three straight games, including a pair of conference games to open the CAC season 2-0. Sunday afternoon's tilt against the Marlins will kick off a run that will include six home games in the next eight contests. The Captains will host the Captains Shootout on December 29-30, followed by three of the first four games in the New Year at home. 

Through the first six games, sophomore Tim Daly has been the leader for the Captains, ranking second in the Capital Athletic Conference in both scoring and rebounding. He is averaging 18.7 points and 8.7 rebounds per game, while chipping in over two blocks per as well. Rookie Marcus Carter has added 16.7 points and 6.0 rebounds per game and is coming off back-to-back 20+ point efforts, including a career-high 26 in the last game at Frostburg State. 

Virginia Wesleyan is averaging over 80 points per game this season and suffered its only loss to nationally-ranked Randolph-Macon College on December 3. The Marlins have bounced back with back-to-back wins since the setback, dropping Guilford and Ferrum heading into Sunday's showdown with the Captains. 

Sophomore Khory Moore is averaging over 18 points per game as the primary deep threat for the head coach Dave Macedo, while senior Greg Montgomery is pouring in 17 points and grabbing a team-high 9.6 rebounds per game so far this season. Senior forward Cameron Owens is the only other Marlin in double figures, averagin 12.1 points per game.
