CNU Women's Basketball Hosts Lynchburg in Non-Conference Action Sunday Evening

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- In one of just two remaining non-conference games left on the schedule, the Christopher Newport women's basketball team will host Lynchburg College (3-1) in the Freeman Center on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 pm. The Captains (3-2) will take on the Hornets from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference before kicking off league play this Tuesday against Southern Virginia University.

Live stats and live video will be available at CNUsports.com/live. For fans who can make it to the Freeman Center to support the Captains, ticket prices are $8 for chairback and $5 for general admission.

CNU is coming off a convincing win over North Carolina Wesleyan, 78-63, and have bounced back with a pair of wins after opening the season with losses in two of their first three contests. The Hornets dropped their season opener, but have rolled to three straight victories featuring one of the top offenses in the region to this point in the season. Lynchburg is hitting at a nearly 43% clip and are led by the ODAC's leading scorer, Shannon Allan, averaging 20.2 points per game. Junior Chaney Forbush is adding 9.5 points and a team-high 7.8 rebounds per game so far this season.

The Captains have also been led by a senior, Camry Green, who is on a run of five straight double-doubles to start the year. Green is grabbing 14.4 rebounds per contest while pouring in over 13 points per game. Rookie Sam Porter has been strong off the bench in her young career, averaging 9.0 points and 2.0 steals per game. Seven different Captains are averaging at least 6.0 points per game as the young group is balanced behind Green.

Sophomore Lauren Cox has started at point guard all five games and is chipping in nearly four assists per game to go with 4.8 points and a team-high 27.4 minutes per contest. Juniors Jordan Miller and Kendra Stone have started all five games this season, each scoring 41 points for an 8.2 per game average.
