LEXINGTON, Va.- The Christopher Newport men's basketball team won for the second straight time over an opponent from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Friday night. CNU posted a 64-53 road win over Washington & Lee to improve to 2-0 to start the season. The Captains were led by sophomore big man Tim Daly, who recorded a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Daly made nine of 13 shots, blocked three and also registered two steals.

Freshman Marcus Carter was the only other Captain in double digits. Carter finished with 13 after scoring ten in his CNU debut on Tuesday night in CNU's overtime victory over Randolph-Macon.

CNU trailed at the half, 25-20, but dominated the second stanza, out-scoring the Generals, 44-28. The win was CNU's  first-ever win at Washington & Lee.. The Captains capitalized on 16 second-half points from Daly to secure their second win in as many games this season.

The first half of play was marred by poor shooting as both teams reached intermission shooting under 30% from the field. The Captains struggled through a 3-15 performance from behind the arc and turned the ball over 9 times in the opening frame.

Following a Logan Miller layup with 11:23 to play in the first, the Generals went on a 11-0 run to take the first half lead. Consecutive three-pointers from Mike Cherry, Hunter Wetherell and Marcel Simon woke the Captains up in the second half before Marcus Carter's layup with 12:27 to play gave the visitors a lead for good.

Daly's second-half performance gave CNU a comfortable advantage while defensively the Captains continued to stifle the Generals, holding them to 9-32 shooting in the second half.

Christopher Newport will play another ODAC opponent on Sunday when the Captains travel to Lynchburg to take on the Hornets. Tipoff time is set for 2:00 p.m.
