Curtain Rises for CNU Men's Basketball...Captains Host Randolph-Macon Tuesday Night at 6 p.m.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- The Christopher Newport Men's Basketball team opens the 2014-15 season Tuesday night, hosting Randolph-Macon College at the Freeman Center. Tipoff time is set for 6:00 p.m.

The Captains, coming off a 19-9 record last year and a trip to the Capital Athletic Conference Championship Game, will be looking to make it two straight victories over the Yellow Jackets. CNU prevailed in Ashland last year, 84-83, behind 19 points and six rebounds from Mike Cherry, who returns to begin his senior season Tuesday night. Cherry, the lone senior on the CNU roster this season, averaged 13.6 points per game last year as a junior.

John Krikorian begins his fifth season guiding the squad, and CNU enters play as the 24th-ranked team in the nation in the pre-season poll from d3hoops.com.

Randolph-Macon is 1-0 after opening the season Sunday with a 63-58 victory at Mary Washington. The Yellow Jackets are ranked 11th in the country.

Tuesday night will be Military Appreciation Night at the Freeman Center, and those with a military ID who wish to attend the game can receive TWO FREE GENERAL ADMISSION TICKETS to the Captains/Yellow Jackets tilt. Tickets will be available at the Freeman Center ticket office.

The first 100 to enter the Freeman Center will receive a CNU Rally Towel. Prior to tipoff, the Army's TRADOC formal band will perform the national anthem.

The game will be broadcast live on the Christopher Newport/Pepsi Radio Network (Xtra 99.1 FM) and online with audio and video at CNUsports.com/live. The pre-game show will begin at 5:40 p.m.
