LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Christopher Newport women's soccer season came to a heart-breaking end Saturday night, as the Captains (12-4-4) suffered a tough 1-0 overtime loss in the NCAA First Round. CNU fell to Stevenson University (11-5-5), who now advances to take on top-seeded host Lynchburg College.

After 90 minutes of scoreless play, the two teams battled into extra time, where Stevenson converted on a one-on-one opportunity from Meaghan Williams.

Then, in overtime, she made picked up her eighth save of the game in the first minute, stopping Perry's third try on-target.

CNU sophomore goalkeeper Haley Casanova started for the Captains, making six saves, including an imperative stop with less than 30 seconds remaining on a header on-frame by Kellen Wittman. In overtime, she also made a big save in the 95th minute on a shot by Allie Ondrejcak.

Senior Joy Piirto took three shots in the game, putting two on frame, while fellow senior Kelsey Thomas also put one shot on-target. Sam Rabinek and Shaydah Naraghi rounded out the attempts on-goal for CNU, as five different players registered shots on-goal.
