GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Opening the season in the 2014 Guilford Marriot Invitational, the Christopher Newport women's basketball team will hit the hardwood for the first time in the 2014-15 season this weekend, starting with the host Quakers on Saturday, November 15 at 2:00 pm. The Captains, ranked 18th in a pair of preseason national polls, will kick off the season with a four-game road trip and will face Roanoke College on a neutral floor Sunday at Noon.

Kendra Stone and
Jordan Miller also return to the court with 20+ starts a year ago, while sophomore
Lauren Cox is the likely candidate to step in as the starting point guard as a position vacated by senior
Andrea Hobbs.Â
Head coach
Bill Broderick enters his third season at CNU with an impressive overall record through two years, with a pair of NCAA Tournament berths. This season, Broderick will be leaning on a young class that includes 13 freshmen and sophomores. Brittany Drew is the top returning scorer after averaging 8.9 points per game as a junior.Â
The second game of the weekend will pit the Captains against Roanoke College, picked 10th in the ODAC Preseason Coaches Poll.
