No. 13 CNU Volleyball Continues CAC Action on Friday at Frostburg State

FROSTBURG, Md. --
The 13th-ranked Christopher Newport volleyball team will continue Capital Athletic Conference action on Friday evening when the Captains head to Frostburg State for a 7 p.m. showdown at the Bobcat Arena.

CNU enters the match with a 20-3 record, including a perfect 2-0 mark in league play. Frostburg State comes in with a 10-13 record and an 0-2 mark in the CAC.

Overall, the Captains and Bobcats have met five times in history with FSU holding a 4-1 lead in the all-time series. Frostburg State posted four straight victories before CNU recorded a 3-0 triumph last year in Newport News. During that contest, current junior Abby McIntyre led Christopher Newport with 10 kills on just 18 swings to help secure the sweep.

On Wednesday, Christopher Newport picked up a 3-0 victory over Southern Virginia during a CAC bout at the Freeman Center. Briana Sutton led the way with 10 kills and a career-high four aces, while Hannah Miller had eight kills and three blocks. Rachel Conway also contributed a team-high 16 assists to go along with two aces and a pair of rejections.

Overall this season, Conway, Miller, and Sutton all rank among the top performers in the CAC. Conway leads the league and stands among the top-20 nationally with a 10.42 assists-per-set average, while Sutton is third in the conference with a 3.09 kills-per-set mark. Miller also ranks second with a .367 hitting percentage and fourth with a 0.98 blocks-per-set rate.

As a team, the Captains lead the league with a .273 hitting percentage and a 13.47 kills-per-set average. The squad sits third in blocks and fourth in aces as well.

Frostburg State enters Friday following a tough 3-2 setback at Mary Washington on Wednesday. During the contest, Lindsey Scepura posted 29 digs for the Bobcats, while Aimee Petrides contributed 28. Naya Cheatem registered 12 kills during the match as well.

So far this season, Scepura ranks second in the league with 382 digs, while Petrides is fourth with a 3.07 kills-per-set average. Madelyn Torres has also pieced together a strong freshman season and currently sits second in the CAC with an 8.26 assists-per-set rate. She also boasts a team-high 46 aces and has contributed 189 digs as well.

Following Friday's action, Christopher Newport will return to the court on Thursday, October 16, for a 6 p.m. showdown at Wesley.
