Live Stats / Live Video

YORK, Pa. -- The 15th-ranked Christopher Newport field hockey team will open up Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday at 11 a.m. when the Captains head north for a battle with York (Pa.) at Kinsley Field.

CNU enters the weekend with a 6-3 record, including a 4-2 mark away from Newport News. York comes in with an 8-2 record and boasts a pristine 6-0 mark at Kinsley Field this season. Saturday's contest will mark just the second all-time meeting between the two programs. Last season, the Captains opened the series with a 7-2 triumph in Newport News.

For those fans unable to make it to Pennsylvania on Saturday, York will provide live stats and a web stream of the action at YCPSpartans.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the CNU schedule page.

Looking to defend their 2013 regular season CAC title, the Captains kick off league action following a hard-fought 1-0 setback against No. 14 Catholic on Wednesday. During the contest, Savanah Cummings recorded a career-high 10 saves between the pipes, but the CNU offense could not crack the Cardinal defense during the game.

Wednesday's contest continued a strong season for Christopher Newport's defensive unit. So far this season, CNU has limited opponents to just 1.43 goals-per-game while compiling an .846 save percentage. Cummings and Bailey Lien have split time in the cage and helped the squad post four shutouts. Cummings currently leads the team with a .923 save percentage, while Lien has registered 26 total stops.

On the offensive end, Belle Tunstall leads CNU with 16 points, including six assists. Taylor Williams has also scored four times for the Captains, while Carol Thompson sits fourth on the team with seven points.

York enters Saturday coming off of a 4-1 victory over Lynchburg. Autumn Mallory led the Spartans with two goals and an assist, while Beth Patrick notched a pair of helpers against the Hornets.

Overall this season, Ali Posey has been YCP's top offensive threat with nine goals and two assists. Freshman Jessica Everett has led the way between the pipes, tallying a 1.50 goals-against-average and a .779 save percentage.

Following Saturday's game, Christopher Newport will return to action on Wednesday evening for a 7 p.m. contest against Bridgewater.
