FROSTBURG, Md. -- With a 1-1 draw on the road at Frostburg State University (10-4-4, 4-2-2), the Christopher Newport women's soccer team has locked up a first round bye in next week's Capital Athletic Conference Tournament. With just one game remaining, CNU's record runs to 11-3-3 overall with a 7-0-1 mark in league play, guaranteeing a home game in the CAC semifinals with one game remaining in the regular season.

An undefeated regular season in conference is no longer possible, but the Captains remained unbeaten with the tie on Saturday afternoon, running their all-time CAC record to 14-1-1.

Playing on the turf in Bobcat Stadium, Christopher Newport was outshot in the first half, 8-4, but held a dominant 12-5 advantage the rest of the game. Defensively, the Captains allowed just one shot-on-goal after halftime on only five total attempts.

Neither team could light up the scoreboard in the first half as both goalkeepers turned away multiple tries. CNU sophomore Haley Casanova made five saves on eight shots in the first half while Frostburg's Katie Smith added three stops on four shots.

In a three-minute burst early in the second half, though, both keepers would let one by, starting with Smith. CNU sophomore and team scoring leader, Victoria Perry, would score the game's first goal in the 58th minute of action off an assist by Abby Johnson. She lofted a perfect shot over Smith's head in for the score.

The lead would not hold, though, as just under three minutes later another of the league's premier scorers, Stephanie Fazenbaker, registered her 12th goal of the season to tie things up at one. Neither team would score in the final 30 minutes of the second half to send things into overtime.

In the extra periods, CNU held a 3-1 edge in total shots, including one that went just wide off the foot of senior Joy Piirto in the 103rd minute. Nothing would go, though, as Lindsay Mondloch and Johnson each added shots in the second overtime period.

CNU held a slight 16-13 advantage in total shots by the end of the game, and earned five corners to the Bobcats one. Casanova's five saves paired with one goal allowed in 110 minutes saw her goals against average drop to 0.71, currently third on the single season list at CNU.

Perry's goal gives her 34 points on the season, tied for the sixth best single season mark in CNU women's soccer history. She has been on target all season and now holds the program's record for shots on-frame in a single season, with 49.

Christopher Newport has just one game left in the regular season, but it's a big one. CNU will take on Salisbury University (10-4-3, 7-1-0) on Wednesday, October 29 on the road in a battle for the regular season championship. First whistle for the regular season finale is scheduled for 3:00 pm
