CNU Men’s Lacrosse Heads to Hampden-Sydney for a 4 p.m. Showdown on Thursday

*The game has been postponed until Thursday due to Wednesday's wintery forecast

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. -- Hoping to get back on track Thursday, the Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will head to Hampden-Sydney for a 4 p.m. showdown with their in-state rivals at Lewis C. Everett Stadium.

In their home opener last Saturday, the Captains dropped a slim 10-9 decision to Mary Washington on a last-second goal by the Eagles. Overall, CNU sits at 2-2 on the season, while Hampden-Sydney comes into play with a 3-1 record, including victories in each of the last two games.

The Captains and Tigers have met six times in history with Hampden-Sydney holding a 5-1 advantage in the all-time series. CNU came away with their first win against the Tigers last season, posting an 8-7 overtime victory in Newport News. Current assistant coach John Glaser scored the clincher in the extra session to secure the win.

The game on Thursday will be available through live stats and a webcast on HSCathletics.com.

Headlining CNU's offensive efforts so far this season, sophomore John Thompson has been nothing short of sensational. He is currently averaging three assists per game, which ranks ninth nationally. Overall, he has dished out 12 helpers to go along with six goals.

Equally successful on the offensive end, Aaron Chrzaszcz leads the team with eight goals, while Alex Barber has found the back of the net five times. Gregory Limon and Will Geise have each scored four goals apiece to round out a well-balanced attack.

Ranking among the top-50 nationally with a 7.23 goals-against-average, Andy McGregor has anchored the team's defensive efforts. Overall, CNU has allowed just 6.75 goals-per-game to its opponents, which is the 35th stingiest mark in the NCAA this season.

On a two-game roll entering Thursday's contest, Hampden-Sydney has been hot of late. Jess Hawthorne leads the team with eight goals this year, including four during the squad's 9-7 victory over Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday. Ryan Martin has also chipped in with nine points this season.

Anchoring the team's defensive efforts, David Noftsinger has tallied a .590 save percentage and a 7.53 goals-against-average. Cody Hornung has also started two games in goal for the Tigers, while Austin Black leads the team with nine caused turnovers. Brad Mostowy has been the squad's top faceoff man, winning 60 percent of his duals.

Done with road games for awhile after Wednesday, Christopher Newport will kick off a four-game homestand with a 4 p.m. contest against FDU-Florham on Monday.
