CNU Men’s Lacrosse Heads to York (Pa.) for a 3 p.m. Battle on Saturday

YORK, Pa. – Backed by a stout defense and an opportunistic offensive attack, the Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will look to continue its postseason push this weekend when the squad heads to York (Pa.) for a 3 p.m. match-up at Kinsley Field.

Raring to go after a weeklong break, CNU enters the weekend with a 5-5 record. York stands at 8-2 overall and 1-1 in the Capital Athletic Conference. The two programs have met only twice in history with the Spartans holding a 2-0 record in the series, including a 12-9 victory in Newport News last year.

Absolutely tremendous on defense, Christopher Newport ranks among the top-50 nationally in scoring defense and man-down defense. Andy McGregor has been the focal point of that effort, notching a .591 save percentage and a 7.02 goals-against-average during his time between the pipes.

Unrelenting on the offensive side of the ball, John Thompson leads the team with 39 points and has already set a single-season program record with 25 assists. Freshman Alex Barber has also scored 15 times, while Aaron Chrzaszcz has chipped in with 13 scores as well.

Not to be overlooked, Billy Crist also ranks fourth on the team with 10 points and Parker Thompson sits fourth with seven goals. Teddy Pekalski and Brenden Dwyer have also been standouts on the defensive side, forcing 13 turnovers apiece. Zakary Burkhard has also caused 11 miscues during the year.

Buoyed by a four-game winning streak, York carries some momentum into Saturday's action. The Spartans boast a well-balanced attack, which features nine players with double-digit point totals. Tyler Hutson leads the way with 31 goals and 13 assists, while Andrew Gamble has chipped in with 27 points as well.

Rock solid in goal, Caleb Abney leads the team with a .680 save percentage this season. He also has pieced together a 6.04 goals-against-average, while Josh Kluver leads the squad with 12 caused turnovers. Ryan Cassidy has forced 11 as well.

On the road for five more games after Saturday, Christopher Newport will continue its tour on April 3 when the squad battles Virginia Wesleyan at 7 p.m.
