NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Hoping to continue its two-game roll, the Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will make its 2013 home debut on Saturday when CNU welcomes Mary Washington to town for a 1 p.m. showdown at Captains Turf Field.
On a two-game winning streak after collecting victories over Randolph and Randolph-Macon during the past seven days, CNU enters Saturday's bout with a 2-1 record. Mary Washington has been similarly successful, winning the team's last two games on the way to an identical 2-1 mark.
Meeting for the sixth time in history, the Eagles and Captains have been equally-matched as of late, although Mary Washington holds a 5-1 record in the all-time series. Last season, UMW squeaked out a 6-5 victory in Fredericksburg after CNU walked away with a 9-8 win in Newport News during the 2011 campaign.

Christopher Newport has been guided this year by sophomore
John Thompson, who currently leads the team with 11 assists and 14 points. His assist total currently ranks sixth on the program's single-season list, while his 21 career helpers are the fifth most in school history. Against Randolph-Macon, he also tied the single-game record after dishing out six assists against the Yellow Jackets.
Offensively,
Aaron Chrzaszcz has also been outstanding so far, scoring a team-high seven goals to go along with three assists.
Alex Barber also ranks third on the team with six points, while
Devin Bushweller is fourth with five.
Gregory Limon and
Will Geise have each scored three goals apiece as well.
Making waves between the pipes,
Andy McGregor has made 18 saves this season while notching a 6.10 goals-against-average.
Brenden Dwyer has also been strong on the defensive end, forcing five turnovers for the Captains.
Nick Mandros has led the way as the team's top faceoff man, securing 12 of his 18 opportunities.
In the net for the Eagles, Zack DelGrosso has led Mary Washington's defensive efforts after making 31 saves in just under 166 minutes of work. Kyle Davitt has also seen time in goal for UMW during the year.
Netting a team-high 10 goals this season, Billy Kelly has paced the offensive attack. Luke Dick has also chipped in with 10 points, while John Bohlinger ranks second on the team with seven goals to go along with a pair of assists. Johnny Esposito has been the team's faceoff specialist, winning 30 of his 58 duals.
Going forward, Christopher Newport will head back out on the road for a match-up against Hampden-Sydney on March 6 at 4 p.m. Following that game, the Captains will kick off a four-game homestand against FDU-Florham on March 11 at 4 p.m.
