NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- After weathering a tumultous schedule to this point that included 13 of the first 21 games on the road, CNU finally gets to settle in at home with a five-game home stretch to end the season. The 23rd-ranked Captains (19-2, 12-2) will look to stay in the mix atop the USA South with a pair of conference games against Greensboro College and Methodist University. Both games will tip at 2:00 pm, with the Pride coming in Saturday, followed by the Monarchs on Sunday.
CNU has won six straight after enduring their only two losses of the season in mid-January, and have really gotten their offense rolling. Including a season-best 96 points against N.C. Wesleyan on Wednesday, the Captains are averaging 76.7 points per game since the back-to-back setbacks. That mark would rank among the nation's top ten, and as it is, the Captains are actually pouring in 68.3 points per game and rank 65th nationally.
Leading the way of late has been sophomore
Camry Green, who collected her 10th double-double of the season and 17th of her career on Wednesday night. Green is averaging 11.9 points and 10.1 rebounds per game, while knocking down a team-high 49.7% of her shots. Junior
Tia Perry has posted a team-high 13.9 points per game, ranking fifth in the league.
Defensively, CNU has been very strong all season long and currently ranks 7th in the nation in three-point shooting defense. Overall, it is a Top 25 defense, holding opponents to just 31.6% shooting, which ranks 23rd.
Greensboro comes into Saturday's contest with double-digit wins in two of their last three contests. The Pride features league-leading scorer and rebounder Bianca Richburg, who is averaging a double-double this season. Richburg is pouring in 21.9 points per game, adding 11.8 rebounds,
Methodist has focused on team defense to win 15 games so far this season, including a head-to-head win over Greensboro on Wednesday night. Head coach DeeDee Jarman leans on seniors Christina Schrader (11.7 ppg) and Brianna Robinson (11.0 ppg, 8.0 rpg) to lead the way for the Monarchs.
