NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- After dropping back-to-back games in Mid-January and falling out of the national poll, the Christopher Newport women's basketball have run off six straight victories, improving to 18-2 and checking back into the D3hoops.com National Top 25. CNU is tied for 24th in this week's poll, the tenth ranking released in 2012-13.
The Captains, led by first-year head coach
Bill Broderick, have raced out to the second best record through 20 games in program history, winning 18 of their first 20 matchups. CNU is currently in third place in the USA South Athletic Conference standings, with an 11-2 record, just one-game behind conference leaders Ferrum College and Maryville College.
Sophomore
Camry Green has led the way of late, picking up Conference Player of the Week honors after leading CNU to a perfect 2-0 road trip against LaGrange and Piedmont. Green has posted nine double-doubles this season and is averaging close to a double-double with 11.6 points and 9.9 rebounds per game. Her mate in the front court,
Nicole Mitchell, is averaging 10.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, and junior
Tia Perry is adding a team-high 14.1 points per game.
CNU will host a pivotal conference matchup on Wednesday, as a part of the
FILL THE FREEMAN campaign. Fans are encouraged to
