CNU Baseball Schedule Changed for the Weekend

Captains play doubleheader at 11am Saturday

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Head baseball coach John Harvell announced a schedule change for the weekend conference series against Methodist University, moving Friday's scheduled game to Saturday for a doubleheader against the Monarchs. CNU (11-2-1) will toss the first pitch of the doubleheader at 11:00 am on Saturday, with a single game on Sunday to round out the conference set. 

The Captains are off to an 11-2-1 start with an 8-1 record against conference opponents. Justin Weaver is hitting .412 with a team-leading 17 RBI and eight extra-base hits, while five different CNU players are hitting over .300. On the mound, the Captains weekend starters have combined to go 7-1 with a combined ERA of 1.62; the team has a 2.83 ERA through the first 14 games, led by a dominant bullpen. Sophomore Adam Emerson and seniors Richard Lindsay, Matt Verdillo and Ryan Fleischmann have seen the bulk of the action out of the pen, combining for a 0.98 ERA and 49 strikeouts. 

Methodist University (7-6, 4-5) has got a pair hitting over .400 in Steven Kirby and Chris Power. Kirby is hitting .431 with six doubles and Power has added a .419 average in 11 starts, driving in eight runs. Michael Inman is the ace of the staff, posting a 2.76 ERA in five starts, earning a no decision in all five.
