GREENSBORO, N.C. -- After the offense scuffled in the opener Sunday night, the eighth-ranked Captains answered the call on Monday, sweeping a doubleheader over Greensboro College with 15 combined runs. CNU (10-2-1, 7-1-0) won, 7-3 and 8-2, on Monday, dropping Greensboro to 7-5 overall with a 3-5 mark against league foes.

In the first game, rookie Brandon Taylor (2-0) gave CNU all they would need as he put together his second straight quality start. The freshman allowed just four hits, all singles, and two unearned runs in 7.0 innings pitched. He posted his first career double-digit strikeout game, mowing down 10 Pride batters.

In the second inning, the Captains offense put three runs on the board which was all Taylor needed. With two outs, designated hitter Andy Viands drove in a run with a single to center, followed by an RBI single from Preston Grissom, scoring two more.

CNU tacked on four more runs in the seventh, led off by an RBI double from Christopher McDougal. Justin Weaver added an RBI single and rookie catcher Aaron Flanagan picked up his first RBI with a hit-by-pitch. Paul Keyes finished out the scoring with an RBI single to right field.

The Captains finished with an 8-2 win in the opener, as senior Richard Lindsay closed out the victory with two innings of solid relief, allowing just one hit. Alex Zapata (0-1) suffered the loss for Greensboro, allowing five runs over 6.1 innings pitched.

In game two, CNU got another quality start from Bryan Bierlein (3-0), tossing 7.0 innings with six strikeouts. McDougal drove in the first run of the game with a groundout in the first inning, and CNU pulled ahead, 3-1, in the top of the third on a Jacob Houston two-run single.

In the top of the fifth, four runs would come around to score after Billy Steel led off the inning with a double, followed by a single by McDougal. Travis Younger walked with the bases loaded and Viands drove in a run with an infield single.

Seniors Matt Verdillo and Ryan Fleischmann combined for two perfect innings in the eighth and ninth, striking out three batters to hold on for the win, 7-3.

CNU is back in action on Wednesday, as they travel to St. Mary's College (Md.) for a 2:00 pm mid-week matchup against the Seahawks.
