NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Sophomore outfielder
Preston Grissom (Chesapeake, Va.) was named to the first D3baseball.com National Team of the Week on Tuesday, after leading the Captains to a 4-1 record last week. CNU will hit the road for the first time in 2013 on Wednesday, as they take on Hampden-Sydney at 3:00 pm.
Grissom hit a team-high .471 last week, going 8-for-17 at the plate with a pair of extra-base hits and four walks. The leadoff hitter went a perfect 5-for-5 on the basepaths and scored a team-high eight times.
The Captains have raced out to an 8-1 start overall, and Grissom is hitting .355 (11-for-31) for a potent offense that is averaging over nine runs per game so far. He has gone 7-for-7 in stolen base attempts with 11 runs scored.
CNU is back in action on Wednesday, at Hampden-Sydney College for their first road game. The Captains defeated the Tigers, 16-5, in the season opener, and will be looking for win number 10 on the year. Live stats will be available at the H-SC Athletics website, or by
