CNU Women's Basketball Heads South for Weekend Games

NEWPORT NEWS, Va-  If you needed a song to best describe the 2012/13 Christopher Newport University women's basketball season, Willie Nelson's "On the Road Again" might just be the right fit.

The Captains, who went 7-2 during a stretch of nine straight road games from December 17th to January 20th, are back on the road this weekend. CNU plays at LaGrange on Saturday and at Piedmont on Sunday. Both USA South Athletic Conference games in Georgia will tip off at 2 p.m.

Christopher Newport has already won over both weekend opponents this year at the Freeman Center. The Captains beat LaGrange, 78-70, on December 1st. CNU then downed Piedmont, 70-55, on December 2nd.

CNU is heading to Georgia riding a three-game winning streak. The Captains are16-2 overall and 9-2 in conference action. Christopher Newport is coming off a 75-54 home win over Meredith on Sunday.

First year Head Coach Bill Broderick's squad has fared well away from home, as the Captains are 9-2 on the road this year. The good news is this is the final road trip of the season for CNU. The Captains will play their final five games of the regular season at the Freeman Center before heading to Fayetteville, North Carolina, for the USA South Tournament beginning on February 22nd.
