YORK, PA, - The Christopher Newport University men's basketball team officially begins play in the Capital Athletic Conference on Saturday afternoon, as the Captains take on the Spartans of York College. Game time at Wolf Gymnasium is set for 3:00 p.m.
CNU is 5-1 to start the season, and the Captains have won their last two games.
John Krikorian's squad is 3-0 on the road following Wednesday's 80-54 victory at Southern Virginia.
The Spartans are 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the Capital Athletic Conference. York has lost four straight games, most recently a 70-65 defeat at home Wednesday night to Penn State Harrisburg.
CNU and York have only met twice before in men's basketball, and the teams split the games, both of which were played in the 1992-93 season.
Senior
Tra Benefield continues to lead the CNU attack, and has posted double-doubles in the last two games. Benefield, a pre-season All-America selection, is now averaging 18 points and 7.5 rebounds per ceontest.
