NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The CNU women's basketball team, off to a 7-2 start this season, will wrap up the 2013 calendar year with one more game on New Year's Eve. The Captains host cross-water rival Virginia Wesleyan (8-2), who come into the Tuesday afternoon tip riding a four-game winning streak, at 2:00 pm.

USA Today Sports Division III Top 25 Coaches Poll, wraps up the 2013-14 non-conference slate against the Marlins. CNU owns a 40-20 advantage in the all-time series, including five straight wins over VWC dating back to the 2008-09 season.Â
Three CNU players are averaging double figures, leading the 22nd-ranked scoring offense in the nation. Seniors
Tia Perry (18.3 ppg) and
Nicole Mitchell (16.8 ppg) are joined by sophomore
Brandi Holland (11.0 ppg) as part of the fast-paced CNU attack. The two seniors also lead the squad in rebounding, while classmate
Andrea Hobbs manages the offense with 29 assists so far this year.Â
Defensively, the Captains rank in the top 40 nationally in steals per game, averaging over 12 thefts per game. Perry, one of CNU's all-time greats in the category, is averaging just under three per game with 26 steals this season.Â
Virginia Wesleyan boasts one of the top three-point shooting attacks in the nation, ranking 15th with a league-leading 8.1 treys made per game. Sophomore Kelly Jones ranks 13th individually, leading the attack, while the team also is ranked in the top 20 defensively against the three.Â
Three Marlins are averaging double figures, including Jones' 13.3 points per game. She is joined by a pair of juniors, getting 15.3 points per game from Andrea Paphites and 14.6 per game out of Nancy Kelly.Â
Tip is set for 2:00 pm on Tuesday, December 31.Â
