CNU Men's Basketball Travels to Harrisonburg to Play Eastern Mennonite Sunday Night

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- The Christopher Newport University men's basketball squad hits the road on Sunday, travelling to Harrisonburg to play Eastern Mennonite. The non-conference tilt will tip off at 7:00 p.m. at University Commons. It will be the first of four straight road games for the Captains over the next two weeks.

CNU is 3-1 so far this season, and the Captains are coming off a home loss last Sunday to Emory in the Championship Game of the Captains Shootout at the Freeman Center. John Krikorian's team fell behind by as many as 17 points in the second half before rallying to tie the game in the final minute at 90-90. An Emory bucket with just 12 seconds left gave the Eagles a 92-90 victory.

Junior guard Mike Cherry has led the CNU attack so far, averaging 22.5 points per game. Cherry was named the Capital Athletic Conference's Player of the Week this week.

Eastern Mennonite is 3-2 heading into play Sunday night. The Royals won at Ferrum on Tuesday, 91-85, in their last game. EMU is led by junior center David Falk, who is averaging 16.6 points and 16.2 rebounds per game.

CNU beat Eastern Mennonite last season, 66-46, at the Freeman Center.

The game will be broadcast live on the Christopher Newport/Pepsi Radio Network (Xtra 99.1 FM) and online at www.CNUsports.com/live with the pre-game show beginning at 6:40 p.m.
