NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- The Freeman Center will be a busy place this weekend as Christopher Newport University hosts the Holiday Inn Captains Shootout. Games begin Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and continue through Sunday.
Christopher Newport, off to a 2-0 start, will play York College of New York (1-1) on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. The opening game Saturday at 2:00 p.m. will feature Emory against Methodist.
The Captains are coming off an exciting 84-83 win at Randolph-Macon on Tuesday night. The victory was the 800th in the 47-year history of the CNU men's program.
The third-place and championship games will be played at 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. The CNU women's team also plays at home on Sunday, hosting Roanoke at the Freeman Center at 12:00 p.m.
The Captains have been led so far in their two wins by junior guard
Mike Cherry, who is averaging 21.5 points per game.
