Schedule Change for Captains Baseball This Weekend

CNU takes on Tufts Friday at 2:00 pm

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Head coach John Harvell announced a schedule change today for the weekend's set against N.C. Wesleyan College. The Captains will move the game scheduled for Saturday to the front end of a doubleheader on Sunday, set to begin at 12:00 pm. Impending weather concerns are the reason for the shift, giving room for the Bishops to potentially stay an extra day for any weather-related postponements.

Friday's game against Tufts University has not been changed and the third-ranked Captains will take on the Jumbos at 2:00 pm at Captains Park. CNU, 16-4 overall, has seen four schedule changes due to weather already this season.

The Captains are led by senior outfielders Shannon Mark and Connor Madden offensively, as both are hitting over .360 through the first 20 games. Mark is getting on base at a team-best .512 clip, while Madden leads the team in runs (19), HR (3), RBI (25) and stolen bases (12). On the mound, the bullpen has been very strong, led by a trio of juniors: Richard Lindsay, Matt Verdillo and Ryan Fleischmann. Fleischmann has tied the career record for saves with 12, while Verdillo is striking out 10.6 batters per nine innings.
