Captains Host Peace in Play 4Kay Senior Day Game Saturday at 2:00 pm

Three CNU seniors honored in pre-game ceremony

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- CNU hosts its regular season finale on Saturday, February 18 as they take on Peace College in women's basketball action at 2:00 pm. The game is part of the Play 4Kay initiative raising awareness for breast cancer and is also Senior Day at the Freeman Center. Three of the Captains will be honored in a pre-game ceremony for their career accomplishments.

Play 4Kay, formerly known as WBCA Pink Zone, is a Kay Yow Cancer Fund initiative held each year during the month of February. Christopher Newport University and the USA South Athletic Conference have joined in the national fight against breast cancer and takes part of this event each year. The mission of the initiative, which was brought to life in 2007, is a nation of coaches raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund will continue to be the official charity of the initiative.

The finale will also be a part of the CNU Athletics Hall of Fame Ceremony as well as Senior Day. Seniors Jerlisa Bowser, Lauren Gural and Kimmy Hopkins will play in their final home regular season game as a Captain.

Earlier this season, the Captains (19-5, 14-3) faced Peace (4-20, 3-14) in Raleigh and came away with a 65-34 victory on the road. Rookie Camry Green had a double-double, with 12 points and 10 rebounds, and senior Kimmy Hopkins had 13 points to lead the way. CNU is seeking it's sixth straight 20-win season and 14th in team history.

Peace has won two straight games, beating Averett at home, 75-63, and earning a 69-57 victory at Meredith on Wednesday. Sophomore forward Crystal Alston is averaging 13.3 points per game to lead the way, while rookie Callie Yohn is hauling in 8.6 rebounds per game, ranking fifth in the USA South.

The game will tip at 2:00 pm, with live stats and a live video webcast available at CNUsports.com.
