CNU Wraps Regular Season Against Averett Saturday at 4:00 pm

Hall of Fame Induction at halftime of men's game

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The 2011-12 men's basketball regular season will close on Saturday, as the Captains welcome Averett University (7-17, 2-9) on Senior Day in the Freeman Center at 4:00 pm. The game will also feature the 2012 CNU Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at halftime.

The game is part of a doubleheader in the gym on Saturday, as the women's team will take on Peace College at 2:00 pm. The men's game vs. Averett will begin approximately 25 minutes following the conclusion of the women's game. Live statistics and a live video webcast will be available at CNUsports.com, and fans can also tune into Xtra 99.1 FM, the CNU/Pepsi Radio Network for live play-by-play.

The Senior Day ceremony will take place just before tip, as the Captains honor the senior class of 2012. Leading the way for the seniors and the Captains as a whole is guard Conley Taylor. The Newport News native is leading the league in scoring, averaging 20.3 points per game. He is just nine points shy of moving up to fourth all-time in scoring at CNU, with over 1,700 career points.

Rookies Mike Cherry and Nik Biberaj have settled into the starting lineup and are both averaging double figures for CNU. Cherry has been on fire, pouring in 18.8 points per game over the last ten games and Biberaj has been a steady presence down low, also grabbing 6.5 rebounds per game.

CNU cruised past Averett in Danville just two weeks ago, 91-72, but the Cougars were without the services of the league's second-leading scorer, Justin Pierce. He has since returned for one game of action and could be a factor against the Captains with his 17.2 points per game this year. Junior Marquis Scott is also in double figures, adding 14.7 points and grabbing 9.3 rebounds per game.
