CNU Hosts St. Mary's in Women's Basketball Action Tonight at 7:00 pm

CNU looks to extend season-opening win streak

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Captains women's basketball team is back in action this evening, as they play host to the St. Mary's College (Md.) Seahawks at 7:00 pm. CNU puts its unbeaten 5-0 mark on the line against a 4-1 St. Mary's squad coming off its lone loss of the season. Live stats and video are available at CNUsports.com. 

The Captains have raced out to a 5-0 start for the fifth time in program history and have two more home games before winter break. After the holidays, the Captains will embark on a brutal nine-game road swing, including seven straight USA South Athletic Conference games through the month of January. Heading into Thursday night's contest, though, the Captains are averaging 66.0 points per game and holding opponents to just 53.8 ppg. Three Captains are averaging double figures, led by junior Tia Perry (14.4 ppg), while Camry Green (11.2 ppg) and Nicole Mitchell (10.2 ppg). Green is adding over 10 boards per game, hauling in three double-doubles already this season.

The Seahawks feature a veteran group that starts three seniors and two juniors. Leading the way offensively is Joanna Murray, pouring in over 15 points per game, while Sophie Pruden is averaging 10.4 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. The team is averaging nearly 75 points per game while holding opponents to under 58 for a scoring margin of +17.4. The scoring offense ranks in the nation's top 25 early this season, while the team is also strong defensively, ranking sixth nationally in steals per game (16.8).
