NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- It's been more than a month since the Captains of Christopher Newport played at POMOCO Stadium. Saturday night, CNU will host Ferrum College at 7 p.m. It will be a "White Out" as all fans are encouraged to wear white.
Matt Kelchner's squad has won two in a row and is now 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the USA South. CNU is coming off a 45-31 win at Maryville last Saturday.
"It will be great to be at home again," Kelchner said. "We've been on the road for a while and working hard to get better. Each week we're improving, and we need to keep moving in the right direction."
The win at Maryville was the 13th straight USA South win for the Captains dating back to 2010. This week, they will play a Ferrum squad that is 3-1 overall and also 1-0 in conference action.
"Ferrum is very good," Kelchner continued. "They've got a sophomore quarterback (Tim Reynolds) who is running and throwing the ball well. This will be a great challenge for us."
The Panthers are riding a three-game winning streak and won at Averett last Saturday, 49-28. Ferrum finished second behind the Captains last year in the USA South, and were picked to finish second again this year in the pre-season poll of coaches.
CNU has dominated the series with the Panthers, having won 10 of 11 previous games. The Captains have taken the last eight games and are 5-0 all-time vs. Ferrum at POMOCO Stadium.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the Christopher Newport/Pepsi Radio Network beginning at 6:30 p.m. with live audio and video available on Captains Sports Live at www.CNUsports.com/live
