CNU Heads to N.C. Wesleyan for USA South Action

Captains take on Bishops at 5:30 pm

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. -- Christopher Newport returns to conference action today, as they travel to North Carolina Wesleyan for a 5:30 pm tip. The Captains women are 6-3 overall and carry a 1-1 USA South record into the matchup against the upstart Bishops, who, at 4-3 overall, have already matched their win total from a year ago.

CNU is coming off a win at Lynchburg to end 2011 and will open the 2012 portion of the season against a team they have won 13 straight against. Sophomore Tia Perry scored a career-high 23 points in the win last time out, and with classmate Nicole Mitchell continues to lead the way offensively for CNU. Mitchell is averaging 11.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game while Perry is chipping in 11.0 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.

The Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan have featured a potent offense this season, led by sophomore Tiffany Bell and junior Samantha Urquhart. Bell is averaging 15.1 points per game, including a dangerous shot from outside, while Urquhart is averaging a double-double with 10.1 points and 10.7 rebounds per game.
