#12 Field Hockey Hosting #4 Salisbury TONIGHT at 6:00pm

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The #12 Christopher Newport University field hockey team will host the #4 Seagulls of Salisbury University in their home opener tonight at 6:00pm on Captains Turf Field. The Captains are coming off a 2-1 win over Randolph-Macon. Salisbury is currently 2-0 after wins over Arcadia and Geneseo State.

The matchup of the two teams in 2010 went into double overtime before the Seagulls were able to score the lone goal of the game to seal the win. In the last five years the two teams have met six times and all six games have been one-goal games. The Captains came out on top in two of those contests.

After just one game in 2011, juniors Caitlin Cahill and Chrissy Kurecki are leading the Captains with a goal apiece. Junior Jamie Dowling has played all 70 minutes in the cage for the Captains and has six saves with only one goal allowed.

The Seagulls have four players with two goals each and are being led by Alison Bloodsworth with two goals and three assists. Goalkeeper Anna Cooke has played all but nine minutes of their first two matches with two saves and one goal against.
