Captains Host St. Mary's College (Md.) Tonight at 7:30 pm

Bring a new and unwrapped toy for free admission

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport University men's basketball team plays host to St. Mary's College (Md.) tonight at 7:30 pm. The game is a part of the Captains Toy Drive and fans are encouraged to bring a new and unwrapped toy for free admission to the game. Toys will be wrapped and delivered to Hampton Roads families in need this holiday season, and donations will also be accepted.

The Seahawks are receiving votes in the D3hoops.com National Top 25 after starting the year nationally ranked in the preseason poll. St. Mary's is 3-2 after a one-poinit loss to Johns Hopkins and a setback to nationally ranked Franklin & Marshall last time out. Last season, the Seahawks reached the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament, and this year the team is led by sophomore forward Christian Macauley. Macauley is averaging over 12 points and six rebounds per game so far this season.

The Captains are looking to improve on a 4-2 mark to start the season, including a sweep of the CNU Invitational last weekend. Led by senior Conley Taylor with 20.2 and sophomore Tra Benefield with 17.2 points per game, the Captains have been averaging nearly 80 points a night. Junior Luc Atangana is also in double figures with 11.0 ppg, while leading the team in rebounding at 7.2 rebounds per game.

CNU is 3-1 in the Freeman Center against St. Mary's, but suffered a loss the last time the Seahawks played in Newport News. CNU holds a 6-4 advantage in the all-time series, with the Captains last win coming in 2004-05 with a 102-79 final.
