ASHLAND, Va. -- The Christopher Newport University men's basketball season will officially begin on Tuesday, as the Captains travel to Randolph-Macon College for the season opener at 8:15 p.m. Both the Yellow Jackets and the Captains are receiving votes in the D3hoops.com Preseason Top 25 this season.

Second-year head coach John Krikorian will lead the Captains in the season opener after posting an 18-9 overall mark in his first year at the helm. CNU returns three starters, including league-leading scorer Conley Taylor (23.0 ppg) and USA South Rookie of the Year Tra Benefield. In CNU's preseason, Benefield scored 15 points against Division I Hampton University, while newcomer Corey Cooper also finished in double figures for the Captains.

Randolph-Macon was selected to finish fourth in the highly-competitive Old Dominion Athletic Conference after going 25-5 last season. The Jackets lost four starters, but return senior guards Adam Desgain and Calvin Croskey to lead the way.  Croskey averaged 8.2 points per game last season, hitting over 41% from beyond the arc.
