NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The USA South volleyball tournament begins tonight in the Freeman Center at 5:00pm. No. 8 Greensboro College will take on No. 9 Mary Baldwin first and the winner of that match will face the top-seeded Captains at 7:00pm.
Greensboro is currently 10-23 overall and 5-13 in conference action. They are being led by Liz Widenhouse with 328 kills for a 3.90 per set average. Setter Dana Sandknop is averaging 7.29 assists per set with 860 on the year. Libero Danielle Simpson is averaging 4.10 digs per set as she leads the Pride with 472 digs.
Mary Baldwin finished the regular season 3-25 with a 2-16 record in conference play. Tiffany Flesher is leading the Fighting Squirrels in kills with 1.75 per set and 159 on the year. Setter Paige Babb has collected 462 assists for an average of 5.85 per set and libero Candace Pettway has 480 digs giving her an average of 5.33 per set.
The Captains are 30-4 overall and finished conference play with a record of 18-0 for the fifth consecutive year. They are seeking their fifth straight conference championship.
Bailey Jensen is leading the Captains in kills with 2.46 per set and in blocks with 1.00 per set.
Jessie Heavenrich is averaging 9.42 assists per set with 744 assists on the year.
Abby Hogge has collected 515 digs for an average of 4.56 per set.
