No. 6 Volleyball Falls to Randolph-Macon 3-2

ASHLAND, Va. - The Christopher Newport University volleyball team, currently ranked 6th in the nation, fell to Randolph-Macon in five sets tonight. The Captains' are now 18-3 and the Yellow Jackets improved to 15-3.

The Captains dominated the first set only allowing the Yellow Jackets 10 points before they won the set 25-10. But the Yellow Jackets came back in the second set to win 25-23. In another close set the Yellow Jackets took a 2-1 lead with a 25-21 win.

CNU fought back in the fourth set to tie the match 2-2 with a 25-19 win. But the fifth set belonged to the Yellow Jackets who won 15-9.

Junior Bailey Jensen led the Captains with 11 kills followed by freshman Jessie Kolden with 10. Senior Jessie Heavenrich had 16 assists while splitting time with freshman Brooke Moore who had 15.

Moore led the Captains in service aces with three while Heavenrich, Chelsea McClure and Cory Harris each added one.

Five Captains had digs in the double digits with junior Abby Hogge leading the way with 25. McClure had a team high six blocks with Christie Fellows and Jensen getting up for four apiece.

The Yellow Jackets were led by Mallory Carter with 18 kills, Troia Bailey with 42 assists and Marli Debareiner with 33 digs.

The Captains return to action on Friday as they host the CNU Invitational beginning at 5:00pm. The Captains will face #11 Juniata in the second match of the night on Friday, slated to start at 8:00pm.
