NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The NCAA has released the first regional rankings of the 2011 season and the Captains are fifth in the South region. Emory took the top spot followed by Southwestern (Texas).
Washington & Lee took third and will be traveling to CNU tomorrow for a 4:00pm match. In fourth is Randolph-Macon who took a 3-2 match from the Captains earlier this season.
The Captains and Generals of Washington & Lee have met 22 times in program history. The Generals lead the series 9-13 although the Captains won in three straight sets last season.
The Generals are currently 25-2 with their two losses coming from Geneva and Marietta. They are being led by M.A. Boles with 321 kills (3.73 per set). Setter Meghan Meleski is averaging 9.85 assists per set with 798 total. Cameron Hill has 304 digs to lead the Generals while Lindsey Dee has 80 blocks to lead the Generals defensively.
Junior
Cory Harris is leading the Captains with 224 kills (2.49 per set) and is followed closely by juniors
Bailey Jensen and
Christie Fellows with 212 and 211 respectively. Jensen also has 92 blocks this season putting her average per set at just over one. Along with Jensen, junior
Abby Hogge is leading the team defensively with 431 digs (4.59 per set).
