Captains Host No. 5 Eastern Tonight in the Freeman Center

Match is set to start at 7:00pm

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The eighth-ranked Christopher Newport University volleyball team is hosting No. 5 Eastern University tonight at 7:00pm in the Freeman Center. The Eagles are currently 21-1 with their only loss from Emory University. The Captains are 23-3 and beat No. 11 Juniata in the Freeman Center last Friday night.

The Eagles and Captains have only played twice in program history and both matches were during the 2010 season. The Eagles defeated the Captains 3-1 at home in October. But the Captains won 3-2 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to advance to the Sweet 16.

Junior Cory Harris has 201 kills (2.45 per set) for the Captains and also has 204 digs and 26 blocks. Junior Abby Hogge is averaging 4.56 digs per set with 392 on the year. Her play last week earned her USA South Defensive Player of the week honors.

Also standing out for the Captains defensively is junior Bailey Jensen who has a total of 83 blocks to lead the Captains. Jensen is also third on the team with 183 kills (2.26 per set). She earned Tournament MVP honors at the CNU Invitational last weekend.

The Eagles are being led by Courtney Reinhold with 280 kills (4.1 per set). She has also added 30 blocks, 182 digs and 38 service aces. Maria Horning has been doing the setting for the Eagle and has collected 761 assists. Rachel Wenger is leading the team with 51 blocks, 16 of them solo blocks. Defensive specialist Kelly Gross has 302 digs and 24 service aces.
