Volleyball Extends Conference Win Streak to 91 With 3-0 wins over Greensboro and Methodist

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The sixth-ranked Christopher Newport University volleyball squad swept both Greensboro College and Methodist University in USA South action improving to 18-2 overall and 11-0 in conference play. The losses dropped Greensboro to 6-13 and Methodist to 12-4.

Set scores for the match with Greensboro were 25-13, 25-5 and 25-15.

The Captains held Greensboro to a negative hitting percentage of -.060 while hitting .357 as a team. Junior Christie Fellows totaled the most kills for the Captains with eight. Junior Cory Harris was right behind Fellows with seven.

Senior Jessie Heavenrich and freshman Brooke more split time setting with Heavenrich getting 18 assists and Moore picking up 12. Freshman Jessie Kolden had five service aces for the Captains and also added five kills and seven digs.

Junior libero Abby Hogge led CNU with 12 digs and Harris followed with 10. Junior Bailey Jensen compiled three blocks for the Captains and Fellows had two.

Set scores for the Captains' second match of the day versus Methodist were 25-15, 25-18 and 25-9.

Chelsea McClure led the way for the Captains with 12 kills in the match while Harris had seven. McClure, like many matches this season, led the Captains with a .611 hitting percentage.

Heavenrich had all 27 assists for the Captains and was one of four who had two service aces. McClure, Harris, and Hogge each added a pair of aces. Fellows and Jensen each got up for 3 blocks and Hogge collected 10 digs to lead the Captains.

The Captains return to the court on Tuesday, October 4, as they travel to Ashland, Va. to face Randolph-Macon College.
