NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Christopher Newport University field hockey team, currently ranked #12 in the nation, is taking on the defending national champions, top-ranked Salisbury University, in Salisbury, Md. tonight. Game time is set for 6:00pm.
The Captains are coming off two victories against Randolph-Macon (5-1) and Rhodes (5-0). The Seagulls have played one game where they came out on top of Mary Washington, 2-1.
Leading the Captains in goals is senior
Katelyn Yandle (Portsmouth, Va.) with three goals followed by sophomore
Caitlin Cahill (Virginia Beach, Va.) who has two. Junior
Caitlin Walker (Fallston, Md.) and sophomore
Erica Henderson (Westover, Md.) have scored the only goals for the Seagulls.
Salisbury currently leads the series 8-2 with the last CNU victory coming in a 2-1 overtime win during the 2007 NCAA Tournament. The Captains hosted the Seagulls in 2009 where Salisbury edged CNU 2-1.
