Box Score

SALISBURY, Md. -- The 12th ranked Captains traveled to defending national champion and top-ranked Salisbury University for a mid-week matchup between ranked teams, stretching the Sea Gulls to double overtime. Salisbury would escape with a double-overtime victory, 1-0, scoring with just 42 seconds left on the clock.

CNU falls to 2-1 on the season while Salisbury improves to 2-0.

The two teams played to a scoreless draw in regulation, with Salisbury holding a stiff lead in shots taken, 15-3. However, when the teams dropped to seven players on the field for the first overtime period, the Captains started to gain momentum. CNU outshot the Sea Gulls in the first overtime period, five to three and they added three penalty corners compared to Salisbury's one.

In the second overtime, the Captains continued to press, putting three more shots on the board. With just 42 seconds remaining, though, Salisbury senior Kandice Hancock got loose on a breakaway and knocked home a shot from the top of the circle that ended the game.

CNU's junior goalkeeper Brittany Bradsher (Hampton, Va.) had a stellar performance, recording 10 saves, while Bri Milne (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Stephanie Bair (Virginia Beach, Va.) both made defensive saves for the Captains.

The 12th ranked Captains return to action this weekend at the National Training Center in Virginia Beach, as they play neutral site games against McDaniel College and Stevenson University. The game Saturday, September 11 will be against McDaniel at Noon, with Sunday's game vs. Stevenson starting at 1:00 pm.
