NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Christopher Newport University volleyball squad hosts Shenandoah University on Tuesday night in the Freeman Center. The first game is set to start at 5:00pm.
The Captains are 14-1 overall and haven't dropped a match in conference action putting them first in the USA South standings with a 7-0 record. They are coming off 13 straight victories with all but one being 3-0 wins.
Cory Harris (Williamsburg, Va.) has a team-high 114 kills for the Captains with
Caitlyn Jansen (Lorton, Va.) right behind her with 110.
Jessie Heavenrich (Cambria, Calif.) has 413 of the Captains' 563 assists and is averaging 10.32 assists per set. Jansen is leading the Captains in blocks with 37 on the year while
Abby Hogge (Clifton, Va.) has 27 service aces and 212 digs.
The Hornets are 8-5 and 2-4 in the conference. They dropped their last two matches to Greensboro and Meredith. The Hornets are being led by
Rachel Maki with 121 kills and 20 blocks.
Kelcy Brown has the majority of assists for the Hornets tallying 275. She also leads in service aces with 20.
Mary Harshman has a team-high 125 digs.
The Captains and Hornets have met 42 times with CNU leading the series 33-9.
