FERRUM, Va. – The Christopher Newport University volleyball squad took down two more USA South opponents today with 3-0 victories over Ferrum and Averett. The wins improve the Captains to 14-1 overall and 7-0 in conference play.

The set scores for the match versus Ferrum were 25-14, 25-8, and 25-7. Christie Fellows (Vienna, Va.) had seven kills in the match, leading the Captains. Nine other Captains also added kills with Chastity Lacy (Crozet, Va.) and Nellie Gaca (Virginia Beach, Va.) each earning six. Alyssa Kidd (Lynchburg, Va.) led in assists with 18 and had three services aces. Abby Hogge (Clifton, Va.) continued her stellar defensive play with 14 digs.

The loss drops Ferrum to 0-12 overall and 0-7 in conference play.

The Captains topped the Cougars in three sets with scores of 25-18, 25-22 and 25-16. Caitlyn Jansen (Lorton, Va.) had a team-high eight kills and added a service ace, three digs and three blocks. Jessie Heavenrich (Cambria, Calif.) had 32 of the Captains' 34 assists in the match. Hogge totaled 15 digs and had two service aces and an assist.

Averett was led by Hillary Meheny with 14 kills and six digs. Jesse Jones had 27 assists, 10 digs and a block. Paige Aaron led the Cougars in digs with 11.

The loss drops Averett to 11-5 and 5-2 in conference action.

The Captains host the Shenandoah Hornets on Wednesday, September 28, for a doubleheader set to start at 5:00pm.
