NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Christopher Newport University volleyball team, currently ranked 12th in the nation, is taking on #2 Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pa. Friday, September 4 at 8:00pm. The Captains are coming off a 3-0 victory over Virginia Wesleyan College.

The match is the season opener for Juniata who is coming off a 36-4 season in 2009. This is the sixth time the Captains and the Eagles have faced off with the last being on October 9th of 2009 where the Captains lost a heartbreaker, 2-3, after winning the first and third games.

CNU returned their entire roster from the 2009 season, when the Captains reached the NCAA Elite 8 for the first time in program history. Head coach Linsday Birch has led the Captains to five NCCA appearances in the last six seasons. CNU was lead in 2009 by junior All-American Caitlyn Jansen, the USA South Player of the Year.

Juniata advanced to the 2009 NCAA Championship game after an upset victory over Wisconsin-Oshkosh who eliminated CNU in the Elite Eight.

The Captains will also play Dickinson College and Franklin and Marshall at 1:00pm and 3:00pm on Saturday, September 4, at Juniata College.
