RALEIGH, N.C. –Christopher Newport University #11 volleyball started USA South play today with a 3-0 win over Meredith College followed by another 3-0 win over Peace College. These matches improve the Captains to 9-1 on the year and 2-0 in conference play.
CNU beat Meredith with set scores of 25-10, 25-15, and 25-13.
Cory Harris (Williamsburg, Va.) led the team in kills against Meredith with nine with 10 other Captains picking up at least one. Dishing out 23 assists was
Alyssa Kidd (Lynchburg, Va.). Harris and
Abby Hogge (Clifton, Va.) both had 12 digs in the match.
The loss drops Meredith to 5-4 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
CNU kept Peace to just 10 points in the first set, winning it 25-10. The Captains picked up the last two sets 25-12 and 25-16.
Kara Elder (Charlottesville, Va.) handed out 10 kills to lead the Captains.
Jessie Heavenrich (Cambria, Calif.) had a team-high 20 assists with Kidd having 11. Hogge had the most digs for the Captains for the second time today adding 15 in this match.
The Pacers are now 2-5 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
The Captains return to action tomorrow at the Freeman Center with a match against Greensboro College at 11:00am and against Methodist at 5:00pm.
