SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Captains come home without losing a set in the Trinity Fall Classic as they beat #14 Southwestern in their final match of the tournament, 3-0. The set scores in their final match were 25-19, 25-21 and 25-21. The win improves CNU to 7-1 and drops Southwestern to 8-3.
Leading the Captains in kills was
Cory Harris with 13 followed by
Christie Fellows and
Kara Elder with eight apiece.
Jessie Heavenrich had all 38 of CNU's assists in the match while
Abby Hogge racked up the most digs with 21.
Caitlyn Jansen had six assisted blocks and one solo block to lead the Captains.
Lindsay Thompson and
Jill Wigington lead Southwestern in kills with nine each while
Christina Nicholls had two and added 27 assists.
This is CNU's fifth contest against Southwestern and their first win. The two last met in 2007 where Southwestern came out on top, 3-0.
Hogge and Heavenrich were each named to the Trinity Classic All-Tournament Team.
The Captains return to action on September 18 against Meredith College and Peace College in their first USA South Conference match of the year. The matches are set to be played in Raleigh, N.C. at 12:00pm and 2:00 pm.
