COMPLETE GAME NOTES - GAME ONE vs. WESLEY COLLEGE

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport University Captains (0-0) will open the 2010 regular season this Saturday, September 4 against third-ranked Wesley College (0-0) at 1:00 pm. Head coach Matt Kelchner will direct the Captains as they kick-off the tenth season in program history at POMOCO Stadium this Saturday against the Wolverines.

The Captains will boast a strong returning core on defense in 2010, including Pre-Season All-American senior Adrin Diggs at linebacker. Diggs will be joined by seniors Ryan Wever, Chris Nickle and Bryan Vaughan.  The four seniors were among the top six in total tackles for the Captains last season. Offensively, fifth year QB Matt Long is back under center for CNU, with familiar weapons on the outside, seniors WR T.J. Foster and Ray Grenke, along with junior Antonio Epps and senior Scott Arvai.

Wesley comes in after posting a 13-1 season in 2009, reaching the NCAA Tournament Semi-Finals. A strong defensive team, the Wolverines ranked fifth in the nation last season in points allowed per game (11.2 ppg) and among the nation's top ten in total defense (251.5). Head coach Mike Drass' squad will be coming to Newport News for the first time in program history with a 1-0 edge in the all-time series.
