Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The CNU baseball team overcame a 4-1 deficit and went on to a 9-4 win to give the Captains a USA South weekend sweep over North Carolina Wesleyan Sunday at Captains Park.
Down 4-1, CNU scored four runs in the fifth and went on to gain its first USA South series sweep since 2008. The Captains had split seven consecutive conference series since taking two from Ferrum in 2008.
In the fifth, Mike Romett had a two-run single and the Captains scored two more on a two-out, bases loaded error.
CNU scored two more on a double play in the sixth and added two in the eighth when
Shannon Mark led off with a triple,
Drue Vernon singled and
Parker Neal doubled.
Neal finished with two hits and two RBIs, while Mark and Vernon each had two hits as well.
Sean Chitsaz went seven innings in picking up his third win of the year.
CNU, now 12-5 and 4-2 in the USA South, has the week off until hosting a conference series against Averett next Saturday and Sunday.
