ROCKY MOUNT, N.C, - Christopher Newport's unbeaten, 10th-ranked women's basketball team ran its victory streak to 20 in a row with an 85-58 win at N.C. Wesleyan Saturday afternoon.
The Captains took control early. The Bishops actually had a 10-9 lead, but a jumper by
Chelsie Schweers gave CNU a 12-10 margin with 12:25 remaining in the first half and ignited a 22-4 run that put the Captains comfortably in front, 31-14, with five minutes to play in the half.
CNU eventually built its margin to 35 points, 81-46, as Schweers led the way with 32 points, hitting 6-11 three point attempts.
Alyssa Kerr contributed 13 points and
Jessica Moore 11.
The Captains are now 20-0 and 13-0 in USA South play. The Bishops are 0-18 and 0-12.
CNU returns home to face second place Averett Wednesday night at the Freeman Center at 5:30.
