NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Down 31-30 at halftime, the ninth-ranked CNU women's basketball team raced to a 78-56 win over Methodist to earn a spot against No. 2 seeded Ferrum in the USA South championship game Saturday at 2 p.m.
The Captains pulled away early in the second half and had the lead to as many as 26 points in running their record to 27-0. The 27 straight wins equals the best ever by any sport at CNU. The 2007 women's tennis team also won 27 straight.
Chelsie Schweers led CNU with 33 points, including 7-11 three-pointers.
Jessica Moore had a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds and
Lauren Gural also had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
