Women's Basketball Takes 1/4 Final Over Greensboro, 69-58

  NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The ninth-ranked CNU women's basketball advanced in its quest for a USA South championship with a 69-58 win over Greensboro in the quarter finals of the conference tournament Tuesday night at the Freeman Center.

  The Captains held off a determined effort by the Pride, which had lost to CNU by 12 points at home just four days ago.

  CNU never trailed in the game, but never led by more than nine points in the first half. But the Captains gradually extended their margin to 17, 50-33, with 14:10 on a jumper by Barbara Davis. The margin remained in double figuresuntil as three-pointer by Sarah Cain at the 7:54 mark brought the Pride to within seven at 54-47. CNU's lead bounced between seven and 11 points the rest of the way.

  The Captains were paced by Chelsie Schweers with 27 points, with Jessica Moore contrbuting 14.  CNU dominated the boards, 49-30, with Davis grabbing ten and Alysa Kerr and Lauren Gural nine each.

  CNU will put its 26-0 record on the line Friday at 6 p.m. against thre winner of the Methodist-Shenadoah quarter final at 6 p.m.
