Women's Basketball Completes Unbeaten Regular Season With 63-54 Win at Methodist

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The ninth-ranked CNU women's basketball team completed its unbeaten run through the regular season with a 63-54 win at Methodist Saturday.

The Captains complete their regular season with a 25-0 record and are 18-0 in USA South play. The 25 wins are a program record and the team is just the third in school history to complete a regular season unbeaten. The other were the 1978 men's tennis team which went 15-0 and did not have post-season competition and the 2007 women's tennis team which was 20-0 and won two USA South tournament matches before falling in the conference tournament final.

CNU took a 27-23 halftime lead despite being in foul trouble as a result of a 13-5 personal foul difference that saw Barbara Davis and Jessica Moore saddled with three fouls each.

But the Captains never trailed after grabbing a 10-2 lead. CNU also scored the first six points of the second half. Methodist got to within two points, 35-33, but CNU then reeled off eight straight points.

Later, Methodist closed to within four, 54-50, with 2:18 to go, but a basket by Jessica Moore and two free throws by Chelsie Schweers put the Captains back on top by eight with 39 seconds to go.

Kimmy Hopkins led CNU with 19 points, while Schweers added 17 and Jessica Moore had ten with nine rebounds.

The Captains will host eighth seeded Greensboro in the USA South Tuesday at 5:30.
